This post about a gringo in Costa Rica brings to mind my time while living in the United States, only what was happening was the opposite!
When you call a business, the first thing you hear is...for Spanish press 2 or some spanish speaking person rattling off that same sentence JUST IN CASE you are Spanish and can't understand what the American company voice system is saying.
When I was in America, there was nothing more annoying than Spanish everywhere. Even the signage started springing up Spanish. Instructions for assembly came in Spanish. I even ordered a portable typewriter and got the Spanish version by mistake!!!
